Waveland and Hancock County Mourn the Loss of Assistant Fire Chief Casey Piazza

The emergency response community across Hancock County is mourning the loss of Waveland Assistant Fire Chief Casey Piazza, a longtime public servant who dedicated more than 25 years to protecting his community.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Piazza had passed away, describing him as “a mentor, a leader and a friend to everyone he encountered.” The agency said he devoted his career to both the fire service and law enforcement, adding, “Rest easy, we’ve got the watch from here.”

Piazza served as the Assistant Fire Chief for the Waveland Fire Department, working alongside firefighters and first responders throughout Hancock County. According to the City of Waveland, he held the position at the Waveland Central Fire Station on U.S. Highway 90.

Since news of his passing was announced, condolences have poured in from fellow firefighters, law enforcement officers, and community members across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Several fire departments have remembered Piazza as a respected leader whose impact extended well beyond his own department.

At this time, officials have not publicly released the cause of Casey Piazza’s death, and no funeral arrangements have been announced.
