3-Year-Old Dies After Being Found Inside Hot Vehicle in Ponchatoula

A heartbreaking tragedy is under investigation after a 3-year-old child died Friday in Ponchatoula after being found inside a parked vehicle during extreme heat.

According to the Ponchatoula Police Department, officers responded on July 10 to a home on Methvin Lane following the death of 3-year-old Jahcari Kash James.

Investigators say the child is believed to have left his family’s home and entered an unlocked vehicle parked nearby. After family members realized he was missing, they enlisted neighbors to help search the area.

A short time later, the owner of the vehicle discovered the child in the driver’s seat. Police said temperatures inside the vehicle were extremely high.

Family members immediately began life-saving efforts while waiting for emergency responders. James was transported to North Oaks Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced whether any charges will be filed.
