SLIDELL, La. — A Slidell man is facing 500 criminal counts after investigators say they uncovered hundreds of files depicting the sexual abuse of children on electronic devices at his home.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced that agents with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrested 47-year-old John Matthew Barber following an investigation into the alleged distribution of child sexual abuse material through a peer-to-peer file-sharing network.

Investigators said the investigation determined Barber had downloaded hundreds of files depicting the sexual abuse of children younger than 13.

Barber was arrested Aug. 5 at his home on Sgt. Alfred Drive in Slidell.

He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on 500 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material involving children younger than 13.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
