Three Arrested After Armed Convicted Felon Leads Investigators to Drugs, Weapons in Picayune Home

Three Pearl River County residents were arrested after narcotics investigators encountered an armed convicted felon at a Picayune residence, leading to the discovery of methamphetamine, firearms, and drug paraphernalia inside the home.

According to the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the Narcotics Division went to a home on Leo Eaves Road on Tuesday, July 14, where they located 34-year-old Matthew Culpepper. During questioning, deputies noticed a firearm tucked into Culpepper’s waistband. Because he is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, he was immediately taken into custody.

While at the residence, deputies also interviewed 59-year-old Dennis Culpepper and 38-year-old Emily Ledet. Investigators said the interviews provided probable cause to search the home.

Authorities said Dennis Culpepper attempted to flee while deputies were conducting their investigation but was quickly apprehended.

During the search, investigators reported finding multiple firearms, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia in the room occupied by Dennis Culpepper.

All three were transported to the Pearl River County Criminal Justice Center.

Authorities said Matthew Culpepper was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and is also being held for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Emily Ledet was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Dennis Culpepper was charged with fleeing law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
