Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office PIO Arrested for Second-Offense DWI While Driving Patrol Unit

The public information officer for the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on allegations of driving while intoxicated while behind the wheel of a department-issued vehicle.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Donovan Jackson was taken into custody early Thursday morning after Gonzales police officers responded to reports of a vehicle stopped at a stop sign near Interstate 10 and Highway 30.

Sheriff Bobby Webre said officers found Jackson asleep behind the wheel around 4 a.m. After their investigation, Gonzales police determined he was impaired and arrested him.

Jackson was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of:

• Operating While Intoxicated, Second Offense

• Obstruction of a Public Passage

Sheriff Webre announced that Jackson has been suspended without pay and that his department-issued vehicle has been taken away. He also indicated that additional disciplinary action remains possible.

“There will be no special treatment for this deputy,” Webre said. “Whatever a civilian gets, he will need to get.”

As of Thursday afternoon, Jackson remained in custody awaiting bond.
