St. Tammany Voters Approve Both Sheriff’s Office and Mosquito Abatement Tax Renewals

St. Tammany Parish voters have spoken, approving both the Sheriff’s Office law enforcement millage renewal and the Mosquito Abatement District millage renewal in Saturday’s election.

The Sheriff’s Office renewal ensures continued funding for law enforcement operations throughout the parish. Supporters argued the renewal was necessary to maintain staffing, equipment, training, and public safety services without creating a new tax.

Voters also approved the Mosquito Abatement District renewal, allowing the parish to continue funding mosquito control efforts. The district is responsible for spraying, surveillance, larvicide treatments, and reducing mosquito populations that can carry diseases and impact quality of life.

Both measures were renewals of existing dedicated property taxes rather than new taxes. With voter approval, the funding for both agencies will continue under the terms of their respective renewals.

Saturday’s results provide certainty for two parish services that officials said rely on dedicated funding to continue operating at current levels.
