Slidell man arrested on child sexual abuse material and AI deepfake charges
A Slidell man has been arrested following an investigation into the alleged use of artificial intelligence to create child sexual abuse material.
According to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, 32-year-old Joseph Impastato III was arrested after investigators received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Authorities say the tip alleged that a user on an AI platform uploaded an image of child sexual abuse material for the purpose of generating additional sexually explicit content involving a juvenile through artificial intelligence. Investigators identified Impastato as the alleged user and later executed a search warrant at his residence.
Impastato was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on the following charges:
* One count of Child Sexual Abuse Material involving a victim under the age of 13
* Two counts of Unlawful Deepfakes Involving a Minor
The investigation remains ongoing.
