The City of Slidell is preparing to officially break ground on a new, larger police department headquarters this week.

Mayor Randy Fandal, Police Chief Tommy Williams, members of the Slidell City Council and city administration will gather Thursday, September 3, at 9 a.m. for a groundbreaking ceremony at 911 Robert Boulevard.

The ceremony marks the beginning of construction on a new facility designed to give the Slidell Police Department additional space and better support officers and staff as the community continues to grow.

The project carries an estimated construction cost of $17.5 million and is expected to be completed in spring 2028.

The new police department was designed by MP Design Group and will be constructed by Voelkel McWilliams Construction, LLC.

City officials are expected to be available for interviews following Thursday morning’s groundbreaking ceremony.

What do you think about this decision? What should local officials do next?
