Thibodaux Couple Arrested on More Than 80 Bestiality Charges Following Child Abuse Investigation
THIBODAUX — A Lafourche Parish couple is facing a combined 83 counts of sexual abuse of an animal after investigators reportedly uncovered disturbing evidence while investigating an unrelated child abuse case.
According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Phillip Babin was initially arrested on May 16 and charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile after allegedly striking a 24-year-old woman’s daughter in the face with a curtain rod. He was later released after posting a $50,000 bond.
As detectives continued investigating the case, a search of the couple’s residence allegedly led to the discovery of videos depicting sexual acts involving a dog on a device belonging to Babin and 24-year-old Hailey Mire.
Authorities say the evidence resulted in Babin being charged with 36 counts of sexual abuse of an animal. Mire was charged with 47 counts of sexual abuse of an animal, along with one count of obstruction of justice.
Mire’s bond was set at $520,000, while Babin’s bond was set at $360,000.
Both were arrested on June 17 and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex.
The investigation remains ongoing.
