Baton Rouge Social Media Personality Arrested In Oil Change Shop Burglary Case
A Baton Rouge man known for his large social media following has been arrested in connection with a burglary at a local oil change business.
According to arrest records, 27-year-old Dejontay Wings was taken into custody after investigators linked him to a break-in at a Take 5 Oil Change location on Airline Highway.
Police allege that the suspect entered the business after hours by breaking a window in the garage area. Investigators say approximately $200 was taken from a safe inside the office, and the business sustained property damage during the incident.
Authorities reported that the suspect had previously worked at the location and had been terminated shortly before the alleged burglary occurred.
One of the more unusual details of the case is how investigators identified the suspect. Police say surveillance footage did not provide a clear image of the burglar’s face, but a manager reportedly recognized the individual based on his mannerisms and distinctive walk.
Wings, who gained a significant online following through comedy videos and social media content, was booked on charges including simple burglary and criminal damage to property.
The arrest quickly drew widespread attention online, where the case generated debate over the evidence, the amount allegedly stolen, and the suspect’s social media popularity.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
