Covington Area Man Arrested On Vehicle Theft, Drug Charges

A Covington area man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the reported theft of a motor vehicle and additional drug related charges.

According to authorities, detectives began investigating after a person reported purchasing a vehicle from 56 year old Mark Finn of Covington. The buyer later discovered the vehicle may have been stolen while attempting to sell it to a scrap yard. An employee at the scrap facility reportedly recognized the vehicle and alerted the buyer.

Deputies later located Finn at his residence and took him into custody without incident before transporting him to the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.

Authorities say that while transporting Finn to the jail, a deputy discovered a white powdery substance on the rear floorboard of the patrol vehicle. The substance was tested and reportedly yielded positive results for methamphetamine.

Mark Finn was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

LRS 14:67.26 C (3) Theft of a Motor Vehicle $1k to $5k (felony)

LRS 40:967C Possession of Schedule II CDS (Methamphetamine)

LRS 14:130.1 Obstruction of Justice

LRS 14:402 Contraband to Penal Institutions

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
