Brother Fatally Shot Following Altercation on Highway 1081
A Covington area man was arrested early Saturday morning after authorities say he fatally shot his brother during an altercation at a residence on Highway 1081.
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called shortly after 1 a.m. on May 16 to a home in the 20000 block of Highway 1081 near Covington. The initial 911 call came from a woman who reported that her uncle had shot her father. Investigators said a second 911 call was also made by the suspected shooter himself.
When deputies arrived, they encountered 50 year old Frank Jenkins at the residence. Authorities said Jenkins admitted to shooting his brother, 47 year old William Jenkins, following an altercation between the two men.
Deputies located William Jenkins suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Frank Jenkins was taken into custody and transported to the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center, where he was booked on one count of Second Degree Murder.
Investigators said both brothers lived on the property. The body of the deceased has been turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
