Highway 41 in Pearl River Officially Designated as Sgt. Michael J. Guillory Memorial Highway

A portion of Louisiana Highway 41 in Pearl River has officially been designated as the Sgt. Michael J. Guillory Memorial Highway following the signing of House Bill 360 into law during the 2026 Louisiana Legislative Session.

The legislation honors the life and service of Sgt. Michael J. Guillory, a Pearl River native and United States Marine Corps Sergeant who served as a Marine Raider with the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion. Guillory deployed in support of operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan before losing his life while serving his country in Afghanistan on December 14, 2012, at the age of 28.

Under the newly enacted law, the section of Highway 41 beginning at the intersection of Highway 41 and Lock 1 Road and extending to the intersection of Highway 41 and Highway 36 will now bear Guillory’s name.

The law also directs the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to install and maintain signs marking the roadway as the Sgt. Michael J. Guillory Memorial Highway.

Governor Jeff Landry signed the legislation into law, making the designation official. Family members, supporters, elected officials, and community leaders celebrated the milestone after years of efforts to create a lasting tribute to Guillory’s sacrifice and service.

According to family members, a dedication ceremony is being planned for December, with additional details expected to be announced in the coming months.

The designation ensures that Sgt. Michael J. Guillory’s legacy will remain a permanent part of the Pearl River community, serving as a reminder of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice he made in service to the United States.
