U.S. Airman Survives Nearly 48 Hours Behind Enemy Lines in Iran Before Dramatic Rescue

A U.S. airman survived nearly 48 hours behind enemy lines in Iran while being hunted by Iranian forces, and was pulled out after a rescue that reportedly included a firefight.

An F-15E went down deep inside Iranian territory, leaving a Weapons Systems Officer stranded in hostile ground. For almost two full days, he stayed alive, moved through rough terrain, and avoided capture while Iranian forces searched for him and bounties were reportedly being offered.

Local civilians who oppose the regime are said to have stepped in and risked everything to hide and protect him while he was being hunted.

When the rescue operation began, it escalated fast. Two U.S. aircraft became disabled at a remote location during the mission, turning an already dangerous situation into something even more intense. Commanders pushed forward, sent in additional aircraft, and executed the extraction under pressure.

During the rescue, reports indicate there was a firefight as forces moved to secure and extract the airman. Despite everything, every American made it out.

Before leaving, the disabled aircraft were destroyed on the ground to prevent them from falling into Iranian hands.
