Slidell Man Convicted Of Attempted Armed Robbery Outside Local Bar

A Slidell man has been convicted of attempted armed robbery following a confrontation outside Times Bar and Grill in which prosecutors say he demanded money from a man riding his bicycle to work and later threatened him with a baseball bat.

A St. Tammany Parish jury found 43-year-old Robert Chase Revere guilty as charged on Thursday, September 17, following a trial before District Judge Alan M. Black. The conviction stems from an incident that occurred outside the Slidell restaurant in February 2025 and led to Revere’s arrest shortly after the victim contacted police.

According to prosecutors, the incident began on February 25, 2025, as the victim was riding his bicycle to work at Times Bar and Grill. A man driving a silver pickup truck allegedly attempted to cut the bicyclist off twice in the restaurant parking lot before getting out of the vehicle and confronting him.

Prosecutors said the driver demanded money from the victim. When the victim refused to hand over money, the confrontation continued, with the driver allegedly threatening to take the man’s backpack.

The encounter escalated further when prosecutors say the driver retrieved a black baseball bat from his vehicle. The man allegedly made a simulated swing toward the victim with the bat while continuing to threaten to take his belongings. The driver eventually returned to his truck and left the area in the direction of Pontchartrain Drive.

The victim contacted the Slidell Police Department and was able to provide officers with information about the pickup truck, including its license plate. That information gave investigators a way to quickly identify the vehicle involved in the confrontation.

Police determined the vehicle was a silver 2004 Nissan Frontier and identified Revere as its driver. Officers located the pickup a short time later while it was traveling north on Front Street in Slidell and initiated a traffic stop.

According to information presented in the case, officers could see Revere manipulating a baseball bat inside the cab of the truck during the encounter. Police also reported that Revere initially refused to comply with verbal commands from officers. Because officers were responding to an alleged armed robbery involving a baseball bat and could see a bat inside the vehicle, they conducted the encounter as a felony traffic stop.

Revere was ultimately taken into custody without further incident. Officers recovered a black baseball bat from behind the front seat of the Nissan Frontier, according to prosecutors.

The case later proceeded through the 22nd Judicial District Court in St. Tammany Parish, where Assistant District Attorneys Alex Alexander and Iain Dover prosecuted Revere on behalf of the state. Prosecutors presented evidence concerning the victim’s account of the confrontation, the vehicle information provided to police, the subsequent traffic stop and the recovery of the baseball bat.

After hearing the evidence, the jury returned a guilty verdict on the charge of attempted armed robbery.

District Attorney Collin Sims credited the Slidell Police Department and the prosecutors who handled the case following the verdict. Sims said residents should be able to travel to work and move throughout their community without being subjected to violent threats or intimidation.

The guilty verdict resolves the trial phase of the case, but the court proceedings are not yet complete. Revere still faces sentencing before Judge Black.

Sentencing is currently scheduled for November 4, 2026.
