Slidell, La. – Salmen High School has increased law enforcement presence on campus Monday, October 26, following a reported threat involving the school late Sunday night.
In a message to families, Principal Liza Jacobs confirmed that a report concerning an alleged threat was submitted to Crime Stoppers.
School officials said a temporary interruption in the school’s communication system prevented administrators from notifying parents Sunday night. The system has since been restored.
However, some parents are expressing frustration over the delay, saying they did not receive the notification until Monday morning, after they had already sent their children to school.
Parents are questioning why they weren’t informed sooner about a potential threat involving their children’s safety. They are also seeking more information about the nature of the reported threat, whether anyone has been identified, and what investigators have determined.
According to Jacobs, school administrators and law enforcement have investigated the report and are taking precautions to protect students and staff.
As an additional safety measure, an increased law enforcement presence will be on campus Monday.
Jacobs also urged parents to remind their children that threatening statements, even those intended as jokes, are taken seriously and may be referred to law enforcement.
The school has not disclosed the nature of the alleged threat or whether anyone has been identified in connection with it.
School officials said additional information will be communicated as necessary.
