$45,000 From Virginia Political Fund Flows Into St. Tammany Sheriff’s Race Days Before Election

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A political action committee behind an aggressive campaign attacking sheriff candidate Daniel Seuzeneau received a $45,000 contribution from a Virginia-based political fund just six days before the November 3 election, according to Louisiana campaign finance records.

The committee, Three Rivers PAC, reported receiving the contribution from Common Sense America Election Fund, headquartered in McLean, Virginia, on October 28.

The contribution was disclosed in a special campaign finance report filed October 29 with the Louisiana Board of Ethics.

According to that filing, Blair Fritts serves as chairperson of Three Rivers PAC, while Michele Avery is its treasurer.

Earlier campaign finance records from 2023 identified current Republican State Representative Kim Carver as the committee’s chairperson. The latest filing identifies Fritts in that position.

The PAC is responsible for an online political attack campaign targeting Seuzeneau. The material raises allegations and questions about his outside employment, business relationships, police department purchasing, and potential conflicts of interest.

However, the attacks rely heavily on questions and insinuations rather than demonstrating that Seuzeneau committed wrongdoing. The existence of business relationships or government purchases does not, by itself, establish misconduct.

The financial disclosures raise another question: Why is a political organization based outside Washington, D.C., investing $45,000 in a local Louisiana sheriff’s election?

Federal Election Commission records identify Melodie Johnson as treasurer of Common Sense America Election Fund. The organization has reported hundreds of thousands of dollars in receipts during the 2025–2026 election cycle.

Records also identify Common Sense America Inc. among its financial supporters, along with contributors Martin Davis, Patrick D. Alexander, and Tom Rosen.

The October 29 Louisiana filing establishes that the $45,000 went to Three Rivers PAC. It does not establish whether the contribution was specifically designated to finance the attacks against Seuzeneau.

What remains unanswered is who solicited the contribution, why the Virginia-based organization became involved in this local race, and whether the money was intended to influence the outcome of the sheriff’s election.

The PAC’s officers and financial backers are matters of public record. Their reasons for financing this campaign deserve the same public scrutiny as the candidate they’re attacking.

The Rabbit Hole will continue examining the campaign finance records and the allegations being circulated ahead of Tuesday’s election.

What do you think about this decision? What should local officials do next?
