Catastrophic Flash Flood Devastates Nepal

Share your love

A massive flash flood tore through northern Nepal near the Tibet border Wednesday, sending a wall of water, mud and debris through communities along the Bhote Koshi River.

Roads, bridges, buildings and vehicles were swept away as the river suddenly surged.

Rescue crews are searching affected areas as officials work to determine the full extent of the destruction and the number of people missing.

The video is security camera footage from the affected area, so the quality is low, but it captures just how quickly the flood overwhelmed everything in its path.

Also reported by: Al Jazeera.

Update (Oct. 2, 2026): The flood struck on Aug. 26, 2026. As of Sept. 20, Nepal Police counted 1,451 dead and about 6,000 missing, according to NDTV. Al Jazeera reported on Sept. 27 that more than 5,000 people were still missing.
