Family of Nolan Wells Retains Attorney Ben Crump as Investigation Continues
The family of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells has retained nationally known civil rights attorney Ben Crump as the investigation into Nolan’s death continues.
In a statement released Tuesday, Crump said his legal team will conduct an independent review of the circumstances surrounding Nolan’s death and seek the timely release of investigative records, witness accounts, and autopsy findings.
“Nolan Wells was a beloved son, teammate and friend who went out to celebrate the Fourth of July and never came home,” Crump said. “His family deserves answers. They deserve the truth.”
Nolan was reported missing after a Fourth of July trip to Horn Island. His body was found Monday morning, and authorities have confirmed the investigation remains active. An autopsy was scheduled Tuesday, and officials have not yet announced a cause or manner of death.
Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter has previously stated that the friends who were with Nolan have been cooperating with investigators.
The family has continued to ask anyone who was on or around Horn Island that day to come forward with any photos, videos, or information that could help investigators determine exactly what happened.
