Gunman Opens Fire Near White House, Killed By Secret Service Agents
A gunman opened fire near the White House Saturday evening, prompting U.S. Secret Service agents to return fire during a chaotic scene just outside the presidential complex. Authorities say the suspect was shot and later died at a nearby hospital.
According to early reports, the suspect approached a checkpoint near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue before pulling out a firearm and firing multiple rounds. Secret Service agents immediately engaged the shooter, while reporters and bystanders nearby were forced to take cover as gunshots rang out across the area.
At least one bystander was also reportedly injured during the exchange of gunfire. No Secret Service agents were hurt, and President Trump was not injured during the incident. Federal authorities, including the FBI, are now investigating the shooting.
The incident marks yet another major security scare involving threats near President Trump and the White House in recent weeks. Multiple violent incidents and attempted attacks connected to federal officials have raised serious concerns about growing political violence and security threats nationwide.
