Heat Advisory Covers St. Tammany Parish Through September 7

St. Tammany Parish is under a Heat Advisory from the National Weather Service office in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, in effect from 9:03 a.m. CDT on September 6, 2026, through 7 p.m. CDT on September 7, 2026.

The advisory calls for heat index values up to 110 degrees each afternoon, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT, as hot temperatures combine with high humidity across the region.

The Heat Advisory stretches well beyond St. Tammany, covering the Northern, Southeast and Southwestern St. Tammany forecast zones along with dozens of other parishes and counties across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. The National Weather Service classified the advisory as moderate severity, with expected certainty and expected urgency.

Forecasters warn that the combination of heat and humidity can cause heat-related illnesses without precautions. Their guidance: drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned space when possible, and avoid direct sun exposure. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and push strenuous outdoor activity to the cooler morning or evening hours.

The National Weather Service also recommends checking on relatives, neighbors and anyone else who may be vulnerable to the heat, particularly those without reliable air-conditioning.
