I-10 Eastbound To Completely Shut Down Near Diamondhead Thursday Night

Drivers traveling from Southeast Louisiana toward the Mississippi Gulf Coast could face delays Thursday night as construction crews prepare to temporarily shut down eastbound Interstate 10 near Diamondhead.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation says eastbound I-10 will experience a complete shutdown at the Diamondhead interchange Thursday, September 17, as crews continue work in Hancock County.

The full interstate closure is expected to last approximately 15 to 30 minutes.

Additional lane and ramp closures are also scheduled throughout the evening.

From 10 p.m. until midnight, eastbound lane closures are planned between Exit 13 at Highway 603 and Exit 16 at Diamondhead.

The Highway 603 eastbound entrance ramp and the Diamondhead eastbound exit ramp are also scheduled to close between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

The work could affect drivers traveling from Slidell and eastern St. Tammany Parish toward Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, Gulfport and other Mississippi Gulf Coast communities.

I-10 serves as the primary interstate connection between Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, meaning even a relatively short complete shutdown can create backups depending on traffic volume at the time.

Drivers traveling through Hancock County Thursday night should allow additional time and be prepared for slowing or stopped traffic as crews complete the work.

The construction is part of ongoing work along the I-10 corridor in Hancock County.

All work is dependent on weather and other conditions, meaning the schedule could change.

Motorists approaching the construction zone should watch for workers, equipment and changing traffic patterns and avoid unnecessary distractions while traveling through the area.
