Invest 97L Development Chances Jump to 70%

LOUISIANA — Invest 97L in the northern Gulf now has a 70% chance of tropical development, according to the National Hurricane Center.

A tropical depression or tropical storm could form before the system reaches southwestern Louisiana or the Upper Texas coast Tuesday or Tuesday night.

The system is expected to move west northwest, keeping the greatest threat west of Southeast Louisiana. However, heavy rain and outer rainbands could still affect portions of Louisiana.

Hurricane Hunters are expected to investigate the system Monday as forecasters continue monitoring its development.
