A shooting that left a 27 year old LaPlace woman in critical condition during a road rage confrontation in Metairie will not result in criminal charges, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened Wednesday morning during rush hour near the intersection of Clearview Parkway and Airline Highway. Investigators say a dispute between two drivers escalated after the woman got out of her vehicle.

A 41 year old man then shot her, according to authorities. He stayed at the scene, called police himself, and waited for investigators to arrive.

Homicide detectives determined the shooting was legally justified self defense, even though there is no indication the woman broke any law during the encounter. The case is being submitted to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office for final review, but no charges have been filed against the shooter as of now.

The woman remains in critical condition. Authorities say she is expected to survive.

Neither the man nor the woman has been publicly identified by authorities.
