Man Nearly Hits Investigator While Trying To Flee Pearl River County Deputies

A Picayune man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he nearly struck a sheriff’s investigator while trying to escape arrest during a narcotics operation.

According to the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, 43 year old Robert Hayden was wanted on several outstanding warrants when deputies attempted to take him into custody on May 8.

Investigators say Hayden tried to flee the scene in a vehicle and nearly hit a law enforcement officer in the process. Authorities said he then abandoned the vehicle and attempted to run on foot before being quickly captured.

During the arrest, deputies reportedly discovered methamphetamine that investigators believe was intended for distribution.

Hayden was transported to the Lenoir Rowell Criminal Justice Facility and booked on multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing, possession with intent to distribute, traffic related violations, driving with a suspended license, no proof of insurance, and failure to appear in court.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
