Nearly 800 Pounds Of Meth Seized From 18-Wheeler On I-12 In Louisiana

A routine traffic stop in Livingston Parish turned into one of the largest methamphetamine seizures Louisiana has seen.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office says its K9 Division stopped an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound on Interstate 12 in Denham Springs. The driver was identified as Anton Vitalyevich Rakov, who authorities described as a deportable Russian national.

Rakov was taken into custody in connection with his immigration status, but investigators weren’t finished with the truck.

A search of the tractor-trailer reportedly uncovered approximately 358.14 kilograms, or 789.56 pounds, of suspected methamphetamine concealed inside the trailer.

That is nearly 800 pounds of meth seized from a single 18-wheeler.

Sheriff Jason Ard described the bust as one of the largest methamphetamine seizures in both Livingston Parish and Louisiana history. Photos released following the seizure show investigators examining the trailer and an enormous quantity of packaged suspected narcotics.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed what initially prompted the traffic stop.

Rakov was turned over to ICE and remains in custody while the investigation continues.

The seizure comes as Louisiana authorities continue intercepting enormous quantities of narcotics being transported along the state’s interstate system. Earlier this year, Livingston Parish authorities seized approximately 361 pounds of meth during another traffic stop.

This time, they found more than twice that amount.
