Newlywed Father Dies in Mysterious Overnight Shooting at Mississippi Water Park

What began as a late night fishing trip at a quiet Mississippi water park ended in tragedy after a 31 year old newlywed father was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities say Jacob Nitkiewicz was discovered around 1 a.m. near Flint Creek Water Park in Mississippi, a recreational area known for fishing, camping, and boating. Investigators have described the incident as an “isolated” case, while early statements from officials suggest they currently believe the shooting may have been a tragic accident.

Still, many questions remain unanswered.

Few details have been released publicly about exactly how the shooting occurred, who was nearby at the time, or what led investigators to initially lean toward the possibility of an accidental shooting. An autopsy is reportedly pending as authorities continue examining the circumstances surrounding the case.

The death has shaken family and friends even more because of where Jacob was in life.

According to reports, he had just married his longtime girlfriend only four months ago after being together for more than a decade. The couple shared a young daughter and had recently returned from their honeymoon. Loved ones described him as a hardworking family man and avid outdoorsman who loved spending time fishing and being outside.

Now, instead of building a future together, his family is planning a funeral.

The Wiggins Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation continue investigating exactly what happened that night at the water park.

For now, the case remains surrounded by uncertainty, with investigators still working to determine whether the shooting was truly accidental or if more details have yet to emerge.
