Pastor’s Son, Mother, and Teen’s Mother Charged Following Pearl River County Investigation

A Pearl River County investigation has resulted in criminal charges against three people following an investigation involving a teenage girl.

According to investigators, 27-year-old Dawson James Brown has been charged with one count of statutory rape, two counts of sexual battery, and one count of human trafficking.

Authorities allege the investigation began after an anonymous report that a 14-year-old girl was pregnant. Investigators say the girl had been living with the Brown family in Poplarville when the alleged offenses occurred.

Brown’s mother, Sabrina Brown, has been charged with conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence, attempted tampering with physical evidence, and felony child neglect. Investigators allege she attempted to interfere with the investigation after learning authorities were involved.

The victim’s mother, Kendrell Bowden, has also been charged with one count under Mississippi’s Anti-Human Trafficking Act and one count of contributing to the delinquency or neglect of a minor, according to court records.

Court documents state that investigators recovered electronic evidence during the investigation and allege it connects Dawson Brown to the offenses. Authorities also allege there were attempts to conceal evidence after the investigation began.

Dawson Brown remains jailed after being denied bond. Sabrina Brown was released after posting bond. Court proceedings are expected to continue as the investigation remains active.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
