Woods Fire Continues Near Pearl River Area, Crews Working to Contain

According to Parish President Mike Cooper, officials are continuing to monitor an active woods fire burning near Chris Kennedy Road in the Pearl River area.

The fire is not fully under control, but it is currently limited to vegetation. Crews are actively working to keep it away from nearby homes and infrastructure.

Fires like this cannot simply be put out with water. Instead, firefighters are managing it by creating fire breaks and allowing it to burn out safely. With no rain in the forecast, it may continue to smolder for several days while crews remain on site.

The good news is that no injuries or property damage have been reported.

Officials say St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District 7 and other emergency personnel are continuing efforts to protect the community.
