Lakeshore High School: 14-Year-Old Arrested After Cafeteria Altercation Injures Teacher

A 14-year-old student was arrested Friday morning following an altercation inside the cafeteria of a St. Tammany Parish high school.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on August 14. According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, a school resource officer was attempting to break up the altercation when the officer was elbowed in the face.

Four teachers were also reportedly kicked or struck. One teacher sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies identified the 14-year-old as the alleged aggressor and booked him into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on several felony and misdemeanor charges, including resisting an officer with force or violence, disturbing the peace, battery of a police officer and multiple counts of battery of a schoolteacher.

“Violence of any kind will not be tolerated in our schools,” Sheriff Bret Ibert said. “Our students, teachers and staff deserve a safe environment to learn and work, and anyone who chooses to disrupt that environment with violence will be held accountable.”

The school was temporarily placed on lockdown while authorities brought the incident under control. The lockdown has since been lifted, and officials said there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.
