State Senator Larry Selders Dies at 44

Larry Selders, a Louisiana state senator representing Baton Rouge, has died at the age of 44.

According to reports, Selders is believed to have suffered a possible heart attack after collapsing Tuesday evening. He had previously been hospitalized in May due to a heart condition and was recovering following treatment.

Selders was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2020 before winning a special election in 2025 to represent the 14th Senate District, succeeding Cleo Fields after Fields was elected to Congress.

Following news of his passing, leaders from across Louisiana, including Jeff Landry, members of the Legislature, and local officials, shared condolences and praised Selders’ commitment to public service, describing him as a respected leader and advocate for his community.

Selders is survived by his wife and two sons.
