Mississippi Storm Cleanup Worker Killed As Flooding Forces Evacuations

A county road crew worker in Franklin County was killed Thursday while assisting with storm cleanup efforts, according to Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves.

Meanwhile, emergency officials are closely monitoring the dam at Anchor Lake in Pearl River County as heavy rainfall continues to impact the region.

A flash flood emergency has been issued for areas near the East Hobolochitto Creek basin, east of Interstate 59 between East Boley Road and West Union Road. Residents in low-lying areas are being urged to move to higher ground and stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.

Governor Reeves said approximately 30 homes are being evacuated as a precaution due to the flooding threat.

Officials continue to urge residents to avoid flooded roadways and pay close attention to emergency alerts. Numerous roads remain closed across George, Hancock, Harrison, Pearl River, and Stone counties as crews respond to the ongoing flooding emergency.
