Picayune Declares State of Emergency After Major Flooding
Picayune, Mississippi, has declared a State of Emergency following significant flooding caused by heavy rainfall Tuesday. City officials reported nearly 10 homes and Picayune City Hall were impacted by floodwaters after approximately 6.8 inches of rain fell in just six hours.
Flooding also covered portions of Interstate 59 near Highway 43, contributing to at least one reported crash. The emergency declaration will allow the city to access additional resources, including funding for extra police personnel to assist with the ongoing response.
Several roads across the area experienced high water, and emergency crews responded to flooding-related incidents as heavy rain continued across parts of South Mississippi.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to remain alert for additional weather impacts as the system moves through the region.
