Four Arrested In Alleged $4 Million Insurance Fraud Scheme In Louisiana
Louisiana State Police say four New Iberia residents have been arrested following an investigation into an alleged automobile insurance fraud scheme tied to a 2025 crash involving a Pelican Waste & Debris garbage truck.
According to investigators, the case began after a criminal referral from Timber Creek Insurance Services and the Louisiana Department of Insurance Fraud Division.
Arrested were:
• Rayshonte Oppenheimer, 29
• Briannie Butler, 32
• Passion Keal, 24
• Quandalyn Bernard, 33
State Police say the suspects allegedly made false statements during the insurance claims process in an attempt to obtain fraudulent payouts.
Investigators say if the claims had been approved, the group could have collectively received approximately $4 million.
Between April 30 and May 1, arrest warrants were obtained for all four suspects on felony automobile insurance fraud charges. The suspects were later arrested or turned themselves in and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
Louisiana State Police reminded the public that insurance fraud increases costs for businesses and consumers across the state.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
