Trump Evacuated After Shooting at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 25, after a shooting broke out near the event’s security screening area at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C.

Authorities took a suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Allen of Torrance, California, into custody. Officials said Allen was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and knives. According to authorities, a Secret Service agent was struck by gunfire during the encounter; the agent’s protective vest is reported to have prevented a more serious injury.

Trump was unharmed and safely escorted from the venue. Witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots, and attendees, including journalists and public figures gathered for the annual dinner, took cover as security moved in.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is one of Washington’s most high-profile annual gatherings, bringing together journalists, politicians and public figures.
