A fire at a Kenner apartment complex left 34 families without a place to stay Wednesday night.
The fire broke out around 7 p.m. in the 2400 block of Reverend Richard Wilson Drive near Jefferson Highway. It started in the back building of the complex, which includes 11 units.
Kenner firefighters spent about 90 minutes putting out the flames. No injuries were reported.
Crews cut power to the entire complex as a safety precaution while they worked, leaving all residents without electricity. The property owner was working to get power restored the same night.
The American Red Cross was contacted to help displaced residents find shelter. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
