WASHINGTON, D.C. — November 4, 2026
Republican Congressman Thomas Massie says he plans to reintroduce articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, potentially setting up a major confrontation in Congress following significant Republican losses in the midterm elections.
According to CNN, the renewed impeachment effort comes amid growing political fallout over President Donald Trump’s decision to launch a war that has damaged Republican support among voters.
Massie previously introduced articles of impeachment against Hegseth and is now preparing to revive the effort as Congress returns to Washington.
The House could vote on the impeachment measure as early as next week.
The move highlights growing tensions within the Republican Party as lawmakers confront the political consequences of the conflict and questions surrounding the administration’s military leadership.
Although impeachment requires only a simple majority in the House, removing Hegseth from office would require a conviction by a two-thirds majority in the Senate.
With Republicans facing a difficult political landscape following the midterm elections, the renewed impeachment effort could become one of the first major battles when Congress reconvenes.
