A Potentially Historic El Niño Is Developing

A powerful El Niño is rapidly strengthening in the Pacific Ocean, and it could have a major impact on weather across the country this fall and winter.

NOAA says there is now a greater than 90% chance El Niño becomes very strong, with current forecasts showing the potential for this to become one of the strongest events on record.

For Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, El Niño typically brings a cooler, wetter and stormier winter, with more frequent cold fronts and an increased potential for severe weather.

If current forecasts hold, we could be in for a very interesting winter along the Gulf Coast.
