Causeway Bridge Reopens After Mandeville Carjacking Suspect Rescued From Water

Causeway Bridge southbound lanes have reopened after a Mandeville carjacking suspect was rescued from the water Wednesday morning following a police pursuit.

According to Causeway Police, the incident began with a reported carjacking in Mandeville before the suspect drove onto the Causeway Bridge. Authorities say the suspect eventually stopped the vehicle and jumped from the bridge near mile marker 9 in the southbound lanes in an apparent attempt to evade law enforcement.

Officials said the individual initially refused a life preserver as rescue crews carried out operations in the water below. Southbound lanes were closed for a time before reopening once the suspect was rescued.
