Northshore Middle School Placed on Lockdown After False Gun Threat

A Northshore middle school was temporarily placed on lockdown Wednesday after a false report involving a gun prompted a large police response.

According to authorities, the incident happened at Lake Harbor Middle School in Mandeville after a student allegedly spread a rumor claiming another student had brought a gun onto campus. Law enforcement quickly responded and the school was placed on lockdown while officers investigated the situation.

Police later determined there was no actual weapon on campus and no active threat to students or staff. Investigators say the rumor was false, but the student accused of spreading it was taken into custody.

The lockdown was eventually lifted and normal school operations resumed.

Incidents involving school threats continue to draw serious responses from law enforcement across Louisiana, even when they turn out to be false alarms. Authorities regularly warn that fake threats and rumors can still lead to criminal charges because of the panic and disruption they cause.
