Slidell’s New Police Headquarters Will Be Built at 911 Robert Boulevard
The new Slidell Police Department headquarters will be built at 911 Robert Boulevard.
The project is being funded through the 0.38% public safety sales tax that Slidell voters approved on April 27, 2024. The tax took effect on January 1, 2025, and is dedicated to equipping, maintaining, and operating the Slidell Police Department, including capital improvements, equipment, salaries, benefits, and other public safety needs.
The sales tax replaced two property taxes that had previously funded the department. Under the new funding model, the cost is no longer covered primarily by Slidell property owners; instead, the tax is paid by anyone who shops, dines, or spends money in Slidell, including visitors who use the city’s police services.
The current police headquarters has served the city for decades. The building was constructed in 1960, has been expanded several times over the years, and was not designed for today’s technology. City officials have said the building continues to require costly maintenance and repairs, has structural challenges, and sits in an area with flood concerns, making renovation significantly more expensive than building a new facility.
City officials say a modern headquarters will provide updated technology, improved working conditions, room for future growth, and the capacity to support a larger police force as the city’s needs continue to evolve.
