Trial delayed in Slidell hit and run case that took child’s life

Slidell — The trial for Connie Estes, the woman accused in the hit and run that killed 6 year old Jeremiah Ramirez, has been pushed back again.

Jury selection was expected to begin yesterday, but that did not happen. The trial is now set to start Thursday at 9 a.m.

Estes has pleaded not guilty to hit and run driving resulting in death and obstruction of justice.

This is the same case that drew major attention last year after another man, Cody Beaudette, was arrested first and accused of drunk driving. He was later cleared when new evidence pointed investigators in a different direction.

Officials said at the time their focus was making sure the right person was held accountable, even if that meant correcting earlier decisions.

Estes was indicted in October 2025 and the case is now finally moving forward toward trial.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
