A crash in Washington Parish claimed the lives of two people Friday afternoon, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers say the crash happened around 1:20 p.m. on Highway 21 near Lon Miley Road. A vehicle traveling south crossed into the opposite lane and collided head on with an oncoming tractor trailer.
The impact was severe, and the vehicle caught fire shortly after the collision. Authorities confirmed that both the driver, identified as a 35 year old man from Bogalusa, and a juvenile passenger died at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer, who was properly restrained, was not injured.
Investigators are still working to determine exactly what caused the vehicle to cross the centerline. As part of the investigation, routine toxicology tests have been conducted, and officials say the crash remains under review.
State Police are reminding drivers that even a single moment of distraction, fatigue, or impairment can lead to tragic consequences.
