Sheriff’s Office Requests Attorney General Investigation Following Incident Involving Sheriff Randy Smith

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has issued a statement regarding an incident involving Sheriff Randy Smith that occurred Friday afternoon at a Madisonville-area restaurant.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office has been contacted to investigate the matter.

“The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is aware of an incident involving Sheriff Randy Smith that occurred Friday (May 29) afternoon at a Madisonville-area restaurant,” the statement reads.

The agency said the Attorney General’s Office was contacted to ensure a fair, thorough, and impartial review of the incident.

The statement comes after a social media post by Robert “Bobby” Couvillion alleged he was involved in a physical altercation with Sheriff Smith at Keith Young’s restaurant.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that Sheriff Smith and the agency will fully cooperate with any investigation conducted by outside authorities.

Due to the matter being an active and ongoing investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said it cannot comment further at this time.

No additional details regarding the incident have been released.
