Folsom Man Killed After UTV Enters Highway in Washington Parish
WASHINGTON PARISH, La. — A 48-year-old Folsom man was killed Sunday afternoon after the utility terrain vehicle he was driving entered traffic on LA Highway 25 and was struck by an oncoming car.
The crash happened shortly after 1:20 p.m. near E. Daniels Road.
Investigators say Timothy Blackwell was traveling north along the shoulder of the highway in a Can-Am UTV when the vehicle entered the northbound lane for reasons that remain under investigation.
A northbound Saturn ION collided with the UTV, ejecting Blackwell from the vehicle. He died at the scene.
Authorities said Blackwell was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A passenger riding in the UTV and the driver of the Saturn both suffered moderate injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Routine toxicology samples were collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
