New STARC Center Opens in Slidell, Giving Caregivers a Much Needed Break

A major new resource has opened in Slidell for families caring for loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

STARC recently celebrated the grand opening of the new Community Wins Respite Center, a three-bedroom home designed to provide short-term weekend care for clients while caregivers take time to rest, travel, attend events, or simply recharge.

Until now, some local families had to travel as far as Denham Springs to find similar respite services.

The new center is located near STARC’s property on St. Ann Street and was renovated with comfort and accessibility in mind. The home features a relaxing coastal theme, outdoor patio space, games, and welcoming living areas to help guests feel at home.

STARC leaders say families have asked for a service like this for years, and the new center will fill a major gap in local support.

The project became possible through years of fundraising, especially annual golf tournaments organized by In-Telecom and its Community Wins initiative.

Community leaders praised the teamwork behind the project and the long-term impact it will have for caregivers across the region.

STARC serves individuals with disabilities throughout St. Tammany Parish and surrounding areas through programs focused on services, training, advocacy, resources, and community connection.

For many local families, this new center means something simple but powerful: help is finally closer to home.
